Arrest of Congress MLA leads to internet suspension in Haryana's Nuh District

Due of potential unrest, mobile internet service has been suspended in Haryana's Nuh district from Friday 10 am until Saturday 11:59 pm. The district administration imposed Section 144 in Nuh, urging residents to conduct their Friday prayers at home. This move comes in response to an emergent situation, as per the official order.

Hours before, the arrest of Congress MLA Mamman Khan by Haryana police for his alleged involvement in the Nuh violence on July 31, which stemmed from an attack on a VHP procession by Muslims. Violence broke out in various Haryana districts, including Gurugram thereafter. Six people, including two policemen, were killed in the violence and 88 others were injured.

The order for suspending mobile internet cites concerns over potential tension, agitation, property damage, and disruptions to public peace and tranquillity in Nuh district. 

While highlighting the risk of misinformation and rumors spreading via social media for mobilizing violent mobs or demonstrators, the order said,"In order to stop the spread of misinformation and rumours through various social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter etc, on mobile phones and SMA, for facilation and mobilisation of mobs or agitators and demonstrators who can cause serious loss of life and damage to public and private properties by indulging in arson, vandalism and other type of violent activities."

While the suspension of mobile internet is deemed necessary in the face of the emergent situation, the order underscores the careful consideration given to public convenience. It outlines measures to minimize disruptions to essential services and emphasizes the urgency of the situation, leading to the ex-parte issuance of the order. The primary goal is to prevent potential violence, safeguard lives, and protect public and private properties from harm.
